Design Process: Explained

Step 1: Initial Consultation and Brief

Every garden design project starts with an initial consultation and site visit enabling me to create a design brief for your garden. Whether you love alfresco entertaining, need an exciting, safe play area for children, want to welcome more wildlife into your surroundings or seek a serene retreat; my designs ensure your garden is a true extension of your home, your lifestyle and you.

Step 2: Site Survey and Analysis

The next step is to survey the site, which captures both the measurements and layout of the site and includes soil testing. This provides a comprehensive understanding of your specific location and is the backbone for all creative design work going forwards.

Step 3: Concept Design

Based on the site analysis and design brief I create concept designs to give an indicative idea of how your new garden could look. Mood boards are also created to support this concept. This stage is all about the layout - specific details come next!

Step 4: Detailed Design

Produced following approval of the concept design, these drawings develop the agreed concept layout into an overall masterplan. I then detail all aspects of the design, including hard landscaping elements alongside all soft landscaping details. At this stage we also add material and planting palettes to bring the design beautifully to life.

Step 5: Garden Build and Planting

I will help coordinate the quotation process on your behalf, either with a single, preferred contractor or via a tender process. With a professional landscape contractor in place, I will monitor the garden build as well as set out and plant up the garden.

Step 6: Post-Completion and After-Care

During the project, I will communicate the key maintenance requirements for the new garden and advise on how to keep your garden looking beautiful. A maintenance plan can be created to help with this.

Consultations

For smaller projects I offer the following bespoke consultation options:

Pay as You Go If you simply require guidance or help with your outdoor space, I offer a consultation service, which is priced on an hourly basis.

Planting Designs If you are looking for assistance with plants for an existing outdoor space, my planting design service may be more suitable.

Garden Design Gift Vouchers If you would like to buy a garden design consultation as a present, I can create a beautiful gift voucher for you to give someone special.
